Cholesterol Advice

One of the best ways to prevent heart disease and stroke is to keep your cholesterol at a healthy level.

What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a type of fat found in the body which is used by the bodies cells and to produce important hormones. However if there is too much cholesterol in the blood it can stick to your artery walls and eventually cause blockages.   It is these blockages that can eventually lead to a heart attack or stroke.

For a healthy cholesterol and good heart health:

  • eat more fruit, vegetables and wholegrains
  • eat less fatty foods
  • eat oily fish twice a week
  • if you smoke, try to stop
  • be a healthy weight
  • be more physically active
  • drink less alcohol
  • learn to relax
  • have regular blood pressure and cholesterol checks
